Yoga Nidra is often described as the state of dreamlessness, corresponding to the delta brainwave state, where there is no awareness of time and a cessation of cognition. In the introductory audio, Iâll explain more, but in essence, Yoga Nidra is the practice of entering a deep state of dreamlessness while remaining consciously aware. Itâs not a practice of sleep, though if you do fall asleep, thatâs perfectly fine. However, itâs best not to practice when youâre tired or right before bed.
At the start of the practice, Iâll guide you to focus on your Sankalpa. A Sankalpa is a heartfelt intention or vow, a statement formed from a deep, egoless place. It reflects your true desires and purpose in life. Rather than coming from your intellectual mind, it arises from your deepest self. Using an I AM statement, create a positive, present, and passionate affirmation that excites your subconscious. For example, if your purpose is to help others heal and you know you yourself need to be in a good place to make this happen you might say, "I am healthy, wealthy, and radiating healing love."
Thereâs no need to overthink your Sankalpaâlet it arise naturally as you practice, and it will evolve over time.
When youâre not tired but seeking quiet time to connect deeply with your Truth, lay down comfortably (place a bolster or pillow under your knees), close your eyes, and press play on the second video for the 38 minute practice of Yoga Nidra.Â
Enjoy and when you feel called to, please let me know how you go. Love shivani
